Honouring Heroes – Hog Roast Market Overton Served A Sensational Spread At A D-Day Commemoration Event!

Hog Roast RutlandEarlier this month marked the 80th anniversary of the largest seaborne invasion history has ever seen: D-Day. This epic invasion turned the tide for the Allies and signalled the beginning of the end of WWII.

Given the significance of this historic event, the 6th of June was a day to remember, with celebrations happening all over the country to honour WWII veterans and celebrate the victory. And, here in Rutland, Hog Roast Market Overton was thrilled to be part of one such celebration.

Hosted by an armed forces charity, this event aimed to celebrate the dedication and sacrifices of our military men and women, both past and present, by welcoming those currently enlisted to relax and unwind with their families at a local military hangar. The hangar was transformed with patriotic bunting and balloons, and there was even a special guest appearance from a veteran who had served in WWII!

The lead organiser, Lisa, wanted to ensure everyone had a fantastic day and asked Hog Roast Market Overton to provide a memorable spread. Our catering manager recommended our Hog Roast Dining Menu for the event, and Lisa thought it was perfect! Featuring two hearty mains, a delectable veggie/vegan alternative, and a variety of delicious side dishes, it was the ideal menu for the occasion.

The chosen buffet comprised whole-roasted free-range chickens seasoned with thyme and sea salt, complemented by homemade sage and onion stuffing and butcher’s chipolata sausages served on fresh brown bread. Also featured was mustard-brushed sirloin cooked medium-rare, served with Yorkshire puddings and red wine gravy. For the meat-free option, we served slow-simmered BBQ-pulled jackfruit rolls with crunchy coleslaw.

Hog Roast RutlandThe sides were a delightful mix of salads, including our classic Caesar salad and heritage tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad, accompanied by creamy dauphinoise potatoes baked to perfection with onion and garlic. Everything was served on real crockery, adding a touch of sophistication to the experience.

Being part of this event was incredibly special for Hog Roast Market Overton. We were proud to contribute to such a meaningful celebration, honouring the bravery and sacrifices of those who served in WWII and recognizing the ongoing dedication of our armed forces. Here’s to the heroes, past and present, who make events like these possible.
